Today was our first day in Chicago. We woke up at 8:30. Well, at least everybody else did. I woke up at 7:15 then went back to sleep and then woke up at 8:01. then I showered and got ready for the Art Institute. at the art institute we had to wait in line to get tickets we saw lions. the sculptures. i almost got one at the gift shop but it was 105 dollars so i wasn't allowed to get it so i got a painting of "The Bedroom" by Vincent van Gogh. First we went through the paperweight collection. then we did fullerton hall, Alsdorf galleries, and then we did Chagall's windows its three stained glass windows. but i think that he painted them and thy are huge. Then we visited the Georges Seurat room. he painted with dots. All of it was dots. If you stand up close it doesn’t look very good but when you stand back or look at it from a distance it all forms together and it looks really pretty. Here is the link to George Seurat paintings.

Then we visited the Vincent van Gogh room. there were two paintings by Gauguin. And then there was a third painting it looked like Gauguin but better. I could pick out the Gauguin paintings right away but this one confused me. It was called Madame Roulin Rocking the Cradle.

Birds

Today was the fourth day of School of the Wild. We did birds today.
On the way to the place were we do birds we saw a living snail. When we got to the place we set up the mist net. Birds get caught in the mist net by flying into the net and falling down into a pouch. While we were waiting for birds we filled out a table . Here it is.

We caught a Black Cap Chickadee. It’s black and white. On it’s back it is about the size of my hand. I even got to hold it. It feels weird when it blinks. It was banded on June 19 , 2006.

Wetlands

Today was the third day of School of the Wild. Today was the wetlands. We visited 3 ponds. The first pond we went to was Prairie pond.
At Prairie pond we caught a lot of snails,2 leopard frogs, 3 tree frogs, 1 bull frog,3 crayfish,leech larva,beetles, and tadpoles. Next we went to Duck Weed Pond. We only caught one thing there and I caught it! I caught a bull frog tadpole. Then we went and ate. We ate by the lake. While we were eating we found a dead raccoon and a fish head. Then we went to Spider Pond. At Spider Pond we caught the 30 pound snapping turtle. It was huge. We think it was the mother because when we caught a younger snapping turtle it was guarding it. We also caught a painted turtle. We got to hold it. I think that snapping turtles are historical because the tail looks like a dinosaurs.

Woodlands

Today was the second day of School of the Wild. Today we did the Woodlands. This was the three mile hike.
We were hiking to the spillway. Along the way we saw a lot of fungi. We saw two branches that looked like elephant trunks , a hollow tree, ( My head could fit inside the hole) We found a Jack in the Pulpit. It was green and white. A Jack in the Pulpit is a flower attached to the side of a plant and has a cover over it. It is really cool. We made it to the spillway! There are lots of rocks . The water moves very fast . On the way back we saw a baby raccoon. It was so cute. It makes a high pitched squealing sound. Then we came into a separate forest and played trust and fall. Trust and fall is were you stand up straight with you eyes closed and you fall back trusting that the person or people behind you will catch you. There were about 5 people in my group that did it correctly. When I went everybody said I had a perfectly straight body.

Prairie and Garden

Today is the first day of School of the Wild! The first day we did prairie and garden.
First we did the garden. We learned that on Conafurd trees you don’t have to cut down the tree you can just count how many branches are on top. They also help farmers. They make a living wall and when wind comes it blows right over the farm.
The Norway spruce is the oldest tree in the world! Types of kiwi can grow on vines. Some types can have a green outside instead of a fuzzy brown.
Next we learned the three colors of the compost.
Brown= carbon = leaves,brown grass,paper bags,straw, and sometimes wood chips
The next color is green.
Green=nitrogen= fresh grass,weeds,food scraps,manure, and urine
The third color is blue.
Blue=water= rain and oxygen.
You will want more brown then green for a good balanced fertilizer.
Next we did Prairie. Did you know that we used to have .1 prairies but now we have a lot more.

Today I had state. It was actually my best meet that I have ever had. I got really excited when they called my name for 1st on bars. Bars isn’t one of my best events. So I was very surprised. So I won bars with a 9.65. I got 3rd on vault with a 9.7 which is kind of hard but somebody won vault with a 9.9. So they only got 1 tenth of a point off! I got 5th on floor and beam with a 9.0 and I won 3rd all around. Here are some pictures and videos of my routines on the “Real Life Movies” page.

On day two we got snowed in. Luckily we brought our snow pants. I ran all the way down the hill and back up with a huge snowball. I had to have my brother help me roll the snow ball up the hill because it was so big and heavy Then me, Naftalia (my sister) ,Shecharya (my brother) built forts for a snow ball fIght. I didn’t have to build one because i had my snowball it actually worked because it was so wide and tall it even but a dent in my moms car! Watch us make the snowball in Real Life Movies.

The Great Smoky Mountains

On day one we went on a waterfall walk. It was half frozen and half water. It was so cool because you could see the water running down behind the frozen part we tried moving on and finding another waterfall but it was to dangerous so we went back down the hill. Its fun and dangerous. The dangerous part is the hill has a lot of ice and very slippery when we went up I had to be in front of Shecharya so if I fell back he could catch me and on the way down my dad was in front. The fun way is sliding down the hill. It’s bumpy but fun. Then we went home and had some cider and hot chocolate.

On the Road to Carolina

Right now I’m in the car on my way to The Great Smoky Mountains. We are probably going to get there at two o’clock AM. At least we get cinnamon rolls and truffles. Yesterday we really wanted truffles and today we got them. I get to sit in the back seat of the car. Trust me it isn’t fun. All of the food keeps falling on me! Then my brother , Shecharya moved the bag that kept falling on me to right next to where he was sitting. So I was very happy so I could sit without food falling on me. Then mom said we could eat cinnamon rolls. Shecharya ate them so fast that I had not even eaten one half of my cinnamon roll. Shecharya wanted more but mom said only three. So we ate our three cinnamon rolls. Naftalia , my sister realized that she could have one more. After a while we went to Jimmy John’s. We all got our sandwich and mom even let us get a drink. I got water because I thought that since we always get water we should get it again. But then mom got root beer and asked her if I could get it also. She said yes. So I dumped out the water and put in root beer. Then we all finished our sandwiches and we were all on the road again.And we kept riding for a few more hours. And then finally we stopped to go to the bathroom. I really wasn’t feeling well by then. And just 3 more hours and we would be there. And finally I fell asleep. And when I woke up I was at the cabin. We didn’t do much when we got into the cabin. Our cabin’s name is The Lost Moose.

Halloween

Today is halloween I am a hedgehog I am very fluffy I am also very cute. We haven't had time to put up all the halloween stuff so we were in a big rush to put it all up. We just carved pumpkins yesterday!! We have a witch on a broom that hangs and you have to clap to make it laugh. It’ has a creepy laugh we also have this skeleton that has flashy eyes and makes this weird sound. It drives my mom crazy. I really wanted to put my costume on put mom wouldn’t let me. Then finally mom said I could put my costume on. Mom had to take a picture of me before I went. Then I said it was too light to go trick or treating. So we waited a little while longer. Then before I knew it , it was dark. So I said now we are going. We went far. I even told her that we should go to my sisters friends house. And after that we got home and mom made me go to bed. Today we did math first as usual. We checked our homework then went on to multiplication pages. My partner didn’t do anything so I did the pages all by myself and my partner just copied off my paper. Once they took my paper when I was writing an answer. I had to grab it from him to get it back. So thats all I did for math. Then we did social studies. I don’t remember what we did so next we went to recess and when we came in we had media. Then to lab. ( computer games.) then to lunch/recess. Then language arts. Then like on all other Tuesdays we had reading buddies.

Today we had ITBS. There is a fun part and a not fun part. The fun part is we get snack and extra recess. The not very fun part is the actual test. So we do the tests then we do math. We are doing multiplication. Then we went to media. After we went to lunch/recess. Then we had another ITBS test. Then we had language arts. We are writing, reading, or we are doing reading groups. Then we have reading buddies. I don’t remember my buddies name but she’s nice and thats all that matters. Then we go home. Well I don’t go home I go to girl scouts. Then I go home. I do my homework and go to sleep. So I’m ready for more ITBS tomorrow.

Today my brother made pancakes. His a really good. I like them. After breakfast my mom made me go upstairs to clean off my desk. That went quick. Then I got the idea of cleaning the whole house. But that didn’t work out very well. I got to the kitchen then I didn’t want to do the dishes. So when my mom got back from dropping off Shecharya I gave her pedicure. She gave me one yesterday so I will give her one today. So I did that then we had dinner. After dinner I painted my moms toes so they look pretty. Then I gave her a massage. She liked it. And now here I am watching the football game New York Giants vs Chicago Bears. I like the New York Giants. So does my mom.

Today I didn’t have anything so I got to have a pedicure my mother did one for me. They feel nice after a lot of walking and the whole week. I’m happy I got one today. My mom even painted my toes. They are very pretty. I like them very much.

Today my mom and me were playing on the wii. We were doing ski jumping. I got 305 points. Then my mom got 345 points. So i was saying Not fair! Not fair! Not fair! and so i went and i missed and i still have to beat my mom and take over first place.

At school today we checked our homework. ( we get homework every day of the week except for Friday.) After we did that we did math. We are doing ballpark estimates. We are doing four digit and three digit and two digit numbers for them. After we do the ballpark estimate we have to find the exact. then we do math boxes. then we ether have science or social studies after that. Today we had science. during science we have a geographer come in. Her name is Mrs. Lipsius. She is really nice. So she shows us rocks and really cool stuff. Then we have music and P.E. In music we are learning recorders. In P.E. we are working on football. Then we had a spelling test. All of our words are homophones. Then we have lunch and recess. Then we have language arts. then we have another recess then language arts again. Then we go home.

My Backyard Birthday Campout

On the 8 and 9 of July in 2010 I had my birthday party. It was a campout. we painted bananas oops i mean bandanas. my friend Phoebe and i did the exactly the opposite. then we made brownies we put the in a pot the we stuck them in the charcoal then we roasted hot dogs and peppers. then we hid the presents and i had to go find them. here are some of the pictures click on them and see what happens

after we hid presents we roasted marshmellows i caught mine on fire many times. so did my friends. then we got our sleeping bags ready and all that other stuff. and we went to sleep er well at 1:30 am then we woke up at 7:30. then we made eggs for breakfast . then everyone went home.
